We woke up this morning to 70 degrees, breezy, sunny, and by all means perfect.
Days like this I realize just how much I love this city. The bike paths were full of leisurely riders, every restaurant’s outdoor seating is packed with mimosa drinkers, and the Capitol Square slows to a crawl as people go about their farmer’s market shopping.
Here’s what we picked up this week:
Starting from top and moving clockwise:
- More rhubarb. I just can’t get enough. Last week’s batch was made into rhubarb ice cream. This week, I’m thinking upside down cake.
- The radishes are likely to be thrown into a salad or just eaten raw as snacks.
- More asparagus for my new favorite salad that I haven’t yet posted. Hopefully that’ll come this week.
- And more morel mushrooms. Last week, I overcomplicated the dish I put them in (fava beans and shallots and so on). These will be treated more properly, as in fried in some butter and put on toast for lunch.
And here’s some more:
- Bleu Mont Dairy cheese curds to take up to Jason’s grandpa’s house for snacks this weekend.
- Pecatonica Valley Farms may be our new favorite place to pick up bacon and other meats.
- More cheese from Bleu Mont. Jason complains I ate the entire previous block of roasted garlic cheddar.
- A quarter loaf of sourdough from Madison Sourdough.
That’s it. What did you get at the farmer’s market this week?
Also – notice our new table we picked up from a neighbor’s yard sale? It may not be the most outdoor appropriate table, but with a $20 price tag, I couldn’t not buy it. I think a waterproof tablecloth will fix any pending issues.
[…] mushrooms on their own here in Wisconsin, I choose the easier path and just pick them up from the farmer’s market. Of note at the market this week was the variance in pricing. One stand was selling them for $100 […]
