When we moved into our home last September, we were completely in love with and intimidated by the big wood wall in our living room.

As the centerpiece of the house, we knew that whatever we hung on it had to be worthy. We were fine leaving it a blank canvas until we found something. We were even okay leaving the two nails that the previous owners had used to hang their art stuck in the wood. There just wasn’t going to be something temporary that would do it justice, and we didn’t want to make extra holes.

This weekend was Madison’s Art Fair on the Square, organized by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. We usually go to stroll the square and buy me some earrings.

But this time, we came across Tiffany Ownbey‘s booth. She’s a paper mache artist from North Carolina who had quite the collection of quirky sculptures that caught my eye. And then we saw the Three Faces, made out of newspaper and book pages on wood, and Jason and I instantly fell in love with it. It’s rare that Jason and I agree so quickly about art. We knew we had to take it home.

The piece is 24″ by 48″ and fits perfectly above our living room fireplace. We hung it up within 5 minutes of arriving at home and proceeded to sit and stare at it for the next hour. Everytime we look at it we notice something different, the way good art is meant to be.

This was the last outstanding item for our living room (last seen on the blog in November). Here’s the original list of projects:

  • buy a big colorful rug
  • buy bookshelf for some coffee table style books/knick nacks
  • create a gallery wall behind the couch
  • find something really awesome to put above the fireplace

Come over and enjoy it with us.
