Some new and exciting things came in our mystery CSA basket this week.
And I’m having a lot of fun menu planning this week, figuring out just how to use up this bounty regardless of the fact that we’re out of town for the weekend. This week, we’ll be tasting multiple cuisines.
Here’s what we got:
- Some lovely green peppers and summer squash will be the base for a Spanish side dish called Pisto Manchego. I’ve never made it, but it’s been earmarked in my Spanish cookbook for years.
- Let’s just all assume these cherry tomatoes are gone. Taste. Like. Candy.
- Some more cucumbers for my salad making pleasure (see last bullet).
- And then we’ve got an enormous head of purple cabbage. There’s a soup I made a long long time ago that has this ingredient, plus black eyed peas and sausage. I remember it being phenomenal. Now to dig up the recipe from the archives.
- Okra. Never cooked it. Was going to go fried but decided to do a little more research. I’m debating between this Indian masala preparation or a Filipino Abodo steak and okra dish. What would you rather see?
- And last but not least, some beautiful heirloom tomatoes. Mix these with watermelon, cucumbers, herbs, and a balsamic dressing and you’ve got a summer salad that tastes like dessert. Interested?
