every year, our friends mark and johnna host a cheese party. as i’ve described in prior years, this cheese party is not just a show-up-and-bring-some-cheese affair.
there is a lot of careful planning and deliberation that go into this event, including who is lucky enough to be invited (lactose intolerance is not an automatic disqualifier, good job anna), who has the skill to execute a course, and who just needs to bring the wine.
like the past couple of years, i’ve been on dessert duty (one of two dishes, the other always by johnna). this year, i made honeyed fig with goat cheese and mascarpone creme trifles. i’ll post the recipe tomorrow, but first let me just show you a line up of what we ate.
i did a terrible job this year writing down all the descriptions of the meals, so some of these are lacking details. you people who made these, feel free to correct anything i mess up. but to summarize, they were all delicious, and may have even topped last year.
appetizer course
empanadas stuffed with spinach, bacon, and delicious cheeses. made by nate.
little crunchy cheddar cookies, no idea how they were made. made by melissa.
salad course
grilled corn, tomato, and blue cheese salad. made by dan and beth.
first course
holy crap buffalo mac and cheese. made by tim.
second course
french toast topped with cheese and pork belly. seriously. made by mark and johnna.
mid-cheese party digestif
mark got a chemistry set and added champagne. it was delightful. made by mark and johnna.
cheese course
as if we need a cheese course (of course we do). made by anna, with some cheeses all the way from the netherlands (welcome home).
dessert course
beignets stuffed with brie and jam. made by johnna.
honeyed fig with goat cheese and mascarpone creme trifles. made by me.
we didn’t do awards this year because, to quote mark, “no one took it seriously last year.” i strongly disagree. but, after the consumption of that much cheese, i was okay with sitting on the couch and simply trying not to die. until next year!
