It took us about three years to finally purchase proper sconces for above our bed.
We used to have these cheap lamps just balancing on the headboard. They served their purpose, but when our {old} bedroom was featured on Apartment Therapy’s My Bedroom Retreat, there was quite a bit of uproar about the lamps not being sconces. People love voicing their opinions in comments, which I guess is what you sign yourself up for when you post your life on the internet. Anyways, they were right, and finally we’ve upgraded.
The reason for the upgrade was honestly that one of the lamps broke, and I just started looking. We found these bronze eyeball sconces at Urban Outfitters for just $34 each. I’ve bought cheap light fixtures before (more on that below) and they typically look cheap, so I was skeptical, but when they arrived I was pleasantly surprised.
We painted the cords green to match the color of the walls so they blend in a little bit more and now they’re proper reading lights for a bedroom. With that settled, I started taking a long hard look at all the other light fixtures in the house. Conclusion: they all suck. Case in point, the overhead light in the master bedroom:
With the exception of the dining room light which we replaced almost instantly after moving into our house, we’ve got a combination of boring or ugly in all the other rooms. Like the master bedroom, here’s what we’re working with in the guest bedroom/office and nursery:
What do I want instead? How about one of these:
One // Two // Three // Four // Five
Here’s what our little hallways look like:
Or, we could go with something link this:
One // Two // Three // Four // Five
You can see our sad little kitchen light:
Which could look like this:
And, probably most embarrassing because we picked this one ourselves and actually replaced an old vintage light fixture is this atrocity from Ikea. The light was about $25 and it looks that way, not to mention that we dropped it while installing it so it’s somewhat crooked too. Ever since we put this up, I’ve been looking for something new.
These are the most dreamy, in my opinion:
One // Two // Three // Four // Five
And I’m sparing you the bathroom light fixtures, because I haven’t even started looking for potential replacements. So, which ones get your vote? Or should I keep searching?
