In full disclosure, I don’t really know why I share home updates here on the blog.
Clearly I don’t have that much of a knack for DIYing or designing spaces, because this would be the third time we’ve redone our office in less than three years. When we first moved into our house, we had a dedicated office space which became Theo’s nursery when he came into the world. We combined our guest bedroom and our office into one room, which worked fine until Jason and I both started working from home full time.
Then this room started to feel a bit crazy and cramped with the bed in there, and we constantly felt like we were getting in each other’s way. This led to Jason moving his office into the basement, which only lasted a couple months because then winter happened and working in a 30 degree room definitely doesn’t help with productivity. So he moved back upstairs, and here we are, a couple months later, with a new space that feels like it’ll actually work for us. At least for now.
First things first, we got rid of the bed and replaced it with a daybed that folds out into an almost king size mattress. This saves us a ton of room and still is available for overnighters to lounge on, albeit it’s very low to the ground when unfolded (sorry dad).
Second big change, we rearranged the desks so we are no longer are side by side. I could handle it, but Jason couldn’t work with me in his peripheral vision. I must just be too pretty and distracting. Yes, that must be it.
Third, plants and better art. Sure, we’re both proud of our college degrees but it’s probably not the most necessary thing to display. Also enough with the bulletin boards. We’ve graduated.
So it’s fair to say that I made nothing you see here (at least nothing new), it’s all sourced from various places, small and large. Here’s the list, in case you’re curious:
- Office desks: Ikea top and legs (no longer available).
- Office chairs: UW Swap Shop, reupholstered.
- File cabinet: UW Swap Shop, spray painted white.
- Side table: Ikea.
- Hanging planters: Light + Ladder.
- Daybed: CB2.
- Case planter: Modernica.
- White and black art piece: Seed and Arrow.
- Wawoo Went West art piece: custom Emily Balsely Illustration (it’s Theo, in case you were wondering).
Looks fresh and bright. I am fortunate enough to have my own office…and it is a disaster! Still, one can hope…
